STAGE ONE Theory Lecture:
Situationism and Walking as Practice

Monday, Apr 23rd

4.30pm

Lecture Theatre

Over the last few years we have seen people take to the streets to demonstrate. This process of public walking is a form of resistance. A public show of protest against dominant ideologies. 'Situationism and Walking as Practice' looks at artists who use walking as a process or as an art form. Of resistance, as activism, or poetic gesture. The lecture places these practitioners and their methods in the context of the ideas and practices of Guy Debord and the Situationist movement of the 1950s and 60s.

Key text: Guy Debord, The Society of the Spectacle (points 1 - 35).
